For residents of Menlo Park, Atherton, East Palo Alto and North Fair Oaks only!

To the Voters

I have been the first member of the Menlo Park Fire Prevention District Board to live in East Palo Alto in 60 years (a resident since 1995) and again seek to represent the interests of this thriving part of the Fire District.

During the latter part of my last term in office I worked six days a week, ten to twelve hours a day, as a stat medical courier, delivering cancer medications and human transplant tissue such as corneas, to homes and hospitals all over the Bay Area. I am now certified to work on fire alarm and life safety systems while working as a dues paying union electrician (member IBEW Local 617). I installed low voltage voice and data cable on the University Circle Project for Rosendin Electric and coax cable on the IKEA redevelopment project for Muzak. I have also been active with the East Palo Alto Council of Tenants (EPACT), which seeks to improve conditions for renters. In my spare time, I work on my fire safety video, "The Cannonball Express" and have thus raised awareness of suburban forest fires like the massive fires that burned in Los Angeles last Fall. The video will be complete and in distribution by the November election.

In my first four years of public service, I spent your tax dollars wisely. I helped select a new Fire Chief. I voted against a pay raise for the Directors. I voted in favor of the purchase of new fire engines.

I stood up for democratic principles and have taken the flak that comes with the territory. I will fight for electrical grid energy independence and Community Access features in any new firehouses that we build, in readiness for the day that the grid goes down.

I am the candidate with the education, vision, experience and working class values who can represent the multi-ethnic interests of East Palo Alto, the new money of Silicon Valley and the traditional suburban values of Menlo Park and Atherton. I look forward to serving another four years on the Board.

I will appreciate your vote in the November 8th election.

-Steven Kennedy
